Myths about Gun Control
1.There has never been a ban on guns till recently in the United States. Sorry that’s not true. There has been people who were banned from having a gun throughout the history of the United States. There’s the easy ones to show like during the slavery years African-Americans were not permitted to carry a gun. Native Americans in some places were not allowed to have a gun.Now for some of the lesser thought of or known times when Guns were banned. In the old west in some western town guns were banned to stop gun violence in these cities. A person was required for entering these cities to surrender their weapons to the local sheriff. On leaving the city they could get their weapons back.A more recent case of the ban on guns was during World War Two, Japanese Americans who were placed in Concentration camps were not allowed to have guns.So any one saying there was never any gun bans in the United States are incorrect.
2.Another myth going around is that once your on a universal gun register the government will use this list to find out who has a gun so they can come to your house and take it. That one is so far from the truth that it makes me laugh. No one will come take your gun unless you use it to commit a crime. Even if a ban on Assault Weapons does go into effect, all weapons you now own will not be taken away. Only new weapons will be banned and no longer sold.
3.Gun Control is against hunting – No we are not, hunting is important in some places and to some people. There are people who are poor who need to hunt to get enough food to eat. Food stamps only go so far. I get that. Another reason for hunting is to control wild animal populations. That is important because if animal populations exceed the environment’s resources mass starvation and disease can decimate an animal population. Hunting can keep that from happening.
No one wants to leave you defenseless You will still be able to have a gun to defend your home if you think you need it. But here’s a little fact you might want to think about. You are more likely to have a violent gun incident in a home with a gun in it. Having a gun can make someone who wants to commit suicide more likely to use it for that purpose. A little argument can become a death by having a gun in easy reach. If someone breaks into your house, will you get to your gun first or if you’re having a bad day will they.
